2nd run

My 2nd run was already tougher than the first, but the deck was stacked against me.  The weather was considerably less favorable (almost 90, no clouds to be seen, high humidity) as well as new running shoes, I forgot to bring my iPod shuffle and I ran more hilly terrain.  That said, I was disappointed in my pace: 4.2 miles in 40:47.  10 minute mile pace is not what I want, but I guess my pace may improve as I get in better shape (although the flipside argument is that I'll get slower with greater distances).  But I'd like to think that running for me is like swimming used to be: I go the same pace whether it's 2 miles or 20 miles.

My knees are a little stiff, but I feel good and still excited.  I was thinking last night about when I get into the longer Saturday runs, how absurd it's going to be to go out and run 14 miles on a random Saturday morning and know that I'm still only 1/2 the distance of the race.  Starting in 2 weeks from this Saturday when I run 7 miles, I will be able to say on every Saturday that I have just run the furthest I've ever run.  That's kind of exciting!

I am definitely going to have to figure a way to bring water with me on runs, even the shorter ones.  I think I would enjoy them much more if I could grab a swallow of water here and there.

Another short 3 miler tomorrow (easier terrain too) and then 5 miles on Friday.  2 runs down, 66 to go.

Day 1

Training for my first marathon (and my first distance event over a 10K ever, and my first kind of race at all since a sprint triathlon 4 years and 20 lbs ago) started today with a simple 3 mile run (actually 3.2) in 29:40.  I'm not threatening to break any land speed records, but it was a nice easy run in a light drizzle with some hills.  One run down, 67 to go.
